For thirty-five years my English students asked, “What were the Olympics like?”, “How did you get to go?”, “”Who sponsored you?” Clever questions to get a teacher off track. No dummy, I knew that trick and promised that when I retired I’d tell all.
It took seven years and a life’s upheaval before I pulled out those yellow pads where my in-class quick-writes, begun with my students, waited. Then the hard work began: two years to form the story, another two to refine, expand, discard and rewrite, and another two to sit back and wait before I felt ready for the final sprint to the finish.
TOUGH GIRL: An Olympian’s Journey comes out this Fall, a memoir focusing on two journeys separated by fifty-six years, one along the road to Rome in 1960 and the other upon the Camino de Santiago in 2012.

To get an estimate for printing quantities, I’m offering pre-sales through this site. Your contribution now, however small or large, will help me with publishing costs. You’ll be on the team!
Pre-ordered books will be mailed in October.
$25.00 contribution will earn a signed copy of the book.
$45.00 contribution will earn a signed book and a VIP invitation to the book launch party (Portland, OR area) where you can pick up your signed book.
$100.00+ contribution wins a signed book, the VIP invite to the book launch, and a public reading or discussion at a mutually agreed upon date/location in the Oregon/Washington. A great treat for your book club.
