We, as Alexis’s co-workers, wanted to find a way that could help her and her family on a grander scale that we could do on our own.
The Backstory
October 1, 2017 was a special day for Tony and Alexis Sutton, a day that they had looked forward to. It was filled with celebration and excitement as they hosted a baby shower for their daughter, who was expecting a baby boy. The party went beautifully and all enjoyed the celebration. Tony and Alexis were now eagerly awaiting the birth of their grandson and their new role as grandparents.
Suddenly, at midnight, Tony and Alexis’s world was turned upside down in a way they could never have imagined. Tony woke Alexis and told her he thought he was having a stroke. After 911 were called and Tony was rushed to the hospital, it was found he indeed had a hemorrhagic stroke. He had lost his ability to speak and walk. Tony is making steady progress towards his walking and his speech and has come home but he does have a long road ahead of him.
That same week, Tony’s mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her liver, she was placed on hospice. Alexis moved her mother in law with her to help care for her. Approximately a week later Tony’s mother suffers a stroke. In less than a week later Alexis fell and fractured her fibula.
Tony’s mother has passed away.
The Costs
They say everything happens in three’s but this is too much for one family to bear in a month and a half of time.
Tony will need rehabilitation, which can be costly. There are funeral expenses that need to be taken care of for his mother. There are bills piling up since the loss of Tony’s ability to work.
