Together WE Can Help the Philippines

Donation protected

When Super Typhoon Haiyan came ashore in the Philippines a week ago, packing winds 3.5 times as strong as Hurricane Katrina, pushing in a wall of water 15 feet high it washed away towns on many islands. No one could have foreseen the devastation it would cause. The official nationwide death toll from the typhoon had increased to 2,360 by Friday morning. Other reports suggest the toll could be far higher, with thousands feared dead in Tacloban alone. The deadly storm left more than 3,850 injured and at least 77 people reported missing across the Philippines.

Reaching all the victims and assisting the survivors -- including more than 2 million people in need of food - are both priorities now. Families are in desperate need of food, clean water, clothing, and everyday items. Medication and vaccinations are required to control disease which is expected to spread in epidemic proportions.

One small group of 20+ Local Kids decided that they had to do something to help. They have come together to raise funds to send to a charity of their choice "“ funds which the government will match equally. They will be offering bottled water for sale at a cost of only $1, at schools and public areas throughout the community. 100% of the funds collected by them will go directly to the Philippines. Zehrs Markets in Orangeville has kindly agreed to donate UNLIMITED WATER to this cause! Once the kids choose their charity "“ we have arranged for them to be transported by school bus to the organizational headquarters to present their donation as a group. Last year over $3000 was raised by ONE CHILD - Jack Greig, who took the initiative to sell bottled water at his school, hockey games and community events. Imagine what 20+ kids can do!!

We hope that you will support this initiative. Not only can we help many people whose lives have been devastated by this terrible storm, we are also in turn teaching our own kids how very fortunate they are to live here in Canada. Valuable life lessons such as empathy, charity, initiative and simply helping other will be invaluable to them in the future.
