Tinsel For Terri

I am posting this in the hopes that someone reads it. This may be wordy but it’s a long story. Please take a moment to consider our story and donate if you feel moved to do so. If you can’t afford it, please give us a “Share” instead. My Name is Erik. I am 40 years old, work full time as a Graphic Artist in Fullerton, CA. My wife and I have been together for 11 years, married for two. When we met, she was living with her mother after leaving an abusive marriage. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer six years prior and I’m sure that the health issues were a major contributing factor to their situation...but it is what it is, as they say.

We met and she was in remission after 1st lumpectomy surgery, chemo and radiation and she was on the road to being considered “cured”. We went dancing and to concerts all the time. We love to dance in our living room. Now she can barely walk and can’t stand up. We love each other very much.

Since then she has been through a hysterectomy, DEIP reconstruction surgery, two lymphectomies, another cancer diagnosis, chemo, radiation, remission and another diagnosis two years ago that came two weeks before we got married. At the same time, my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is now currently receiving in-home hospice care as he allows himself to pass with some semblance of dignity and control over his own destiny to a degree. I must say, it has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life and I can’t begin to imagine what he’s going thru right now. It really is heartbreaking.

We celebrate our anniversary every year with a trip to Vegas (where we got married..we have been going there every year for the last eleven years together..Vegas is special to us #VegasStrong) and this year just so happened to be the weekend that we had many family members and friends in town for a certain country concert that became a horrible tragedy that nobody seems to be talking about anymore for some odd reason..but I digress.

Basically our entire vacation was a stressful, scary and emotional experience. She was in a scooter and very weak this time as she’s been on chemo for like two years now. She has been given very strong pain medication to help deal with this breast cancer that is now metastatic and in stage four in her liver.

Six weeks ago, she was taken to the hospital with a staph infection that was nearly septic in her blood and put on fluids and antibiotics. Since then she has had trouble with her breathing and has developed jaundice due to her inability to move from atrophy, and her body’s high retention of fluids coupled with the attack on her liver by this tumor. She currently has 40 pounds of fluid in her system that she has to go thru very painful physical therapy to relieve.

She was transferred to a skilled nursing facility two days ago and is currently recovering and working with a physical therapist to get rid of this fluid and to stand on her own two feet again. It’s going to be a long road and I am sure there will be bills galore coming down the line. I just got one from the city for $350 to take her two blocks down the street..literally..I can walk there from my house. In the spirit of Christmas or Saturnalia or Kwanzaa or whatever you choose to do this holiday season or don’t do for that matter, please consider making a small donation to our cause. We thank you in advance for your contributions, likes and shares. Even $1 helps! The more this gets shared, the more it spreads..like a cancer..f#%€ Cancer...let’s do this people!I’m asking for $2000 because that would cover some bills and a house payment. It would help me readjust my funds and get me back on track as I have had to learn how to balance a checkbook, pay bills, and manage the house. I am currently on disability and still waiting for my first check after more than six weeks so things are tight..I have no idea how she does it. She’s an angel and a miracle worker. So we need to work a miracle for her and give her something to dance about. God Bless and Merry Christmas!

Update 1:
I’m updating the goal on this to reflect the need for assistance with upcoming hospital bills. Please share again if you don’t mind. Thanks!

Update 2:
On Thursday, December 28, my father passed. On Friday, January 12 at 5:45am, my lovely wife lost her battle with cancer. Thank you all in advance for your help. Please consider this a funeral fund now. While I am heartbroken that my best friend is gone, I am happy she is not longer suffering and in pain. May she Rest In Peace.
