After several years, Christina-Marie, Becca's beloved daughter, lost her courageous battle against mental illness.
For those who weren’t aware, Tina (as she was known to family and friends) was diagnosed with Schizophrenia three years ago. This came as a shock to our family, especially since mental illness is not something we are familiar with or have experienced in our immediate family. Over time we noticed the gradual changes as the illness began to take a stronger hold on her.
Since her diagnosis it has been an ongoing journey and struggle between counseling and medication adjustments and trying to create as normal of a life as possible for Tina. The schizophrenia caused Tina to struggle with identifying reality vs imagination, extreme paranoia, deep depression and fear. We as a family came to understand the difference between the Tina we all knew and adored and the illness that waged war in her mind.
But through that struggle Tina poured her heart out to God in prayer and through her many writings. She found comfort, peace and joy in her family, whose pictures she kept close in her purse, phone, and were displayed proudly on her bedroom walls. Even our voices gave her comfort and strength as she saved voicemails from many of us over the years.
Becca, along with Christina’s father, Chris, stayed by Christina’s side day and night. They loved her, struggled with her, walked with her and were her rocks in this long storm. They miss her dearly and are still processing the raw pain and anguish and greatly appreciate your prayers, love and support during this trying time.
Becca continues her fight against the cancer, but this unexpected tragedy caught the family at a challenging time where strength has been drained and finances stretched.
Rather than asking for your generosity in helping Becca with her medical bills, we are instead asking for your help in covering the high price of laying Tina to rest and celebrating her life.
We are thankful that Tina is now free from all earthly pain and suffering, and is full of joy, dancing in the arms of Jesus.
