Supporting Tim’s Dream for Emily and Arlo

Donation protected
Tim Kirkby had dreams; many of his dreams did come true but some are yet to be fulfilled. Tim was, like many young men, filled with goals and dreams for his wife, his son, and his new young family.

When Tim was 19 years old, he was diagnosed with Lymphoma, after tearing into this fight for 6 months through Chemotherapy treatment, Tim went into remission. At the age of 20, Tim met the love of his life Emily, with whom he loved and lived life to its fullest. In a heartbreaking turn of events, Tim at the age of 22 was ravaged again to a second bout of Lymphoma. Together, Tim and Emily fought against the return of the Lymphoma, and after further Chemotherapy treatment and Stem Cell transplant Tim recovered once again. Tim = 2. Lymphoma = 0…and that should have been the end of it.

In 2017 Tim and Emily married and through the miracle of IVF along came a beautiful baby boy named Arlo, who was born in May 2019. However, two weeks before Arlo was born Tim received the devastating news that he again had cancer, this time a rare form of clear cell carcinoma. After battling this cancer for 12 months, one-week shy of Arlo’s first birthday, Tim succumbed to the ravishes of the insidious disease that is Cancer.

Tim, and the Kirkby family, have always been at the heart of the community of the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club, an extended family which saw Tim embraced as a young Nipper from the age of 5.

Tim became an elite athlete competing regularly at State & National level while developing a passion for teaching and coaching a new generation of Freshwater members. The Kirkby’s are a family bound by strong bonds and traditions which included a shared passion for the mighty Rabbitohs, the South Sydney Rugby League Club.

Tim loved his active lifestyle and the communities he worked and played in. He was a gentle soul with a cheeky sense of humour and passion for board paddling and the next generation of board paddlers wherever they may be from.

Tim may have left us, yet his dreams remain in all of us. ‘Support for Tim’s Dream for Emily & Arlo’ is created to give his wife, Emily, and his one-year-old son, Arlo, the life that he had planned to live together with them. We, the friends of Tim & Emily, want to ensure that Emily is supported and strengthened by an extended family and community so that Arlo will have every chance to live a life where an opportunity for education, life experience and essential care is able to be met.

‘It takes a village to raise a child’ is a well-respected proverb from many African societies. It tells us that we all have a role to play. Supporting Emily & Arlo on this journey is where we need your help. Any positive role you can play is a role that Tim would have appreciated.

We need your support, and we need your generosity to see Tim’s dream come true. In the words of one of Tim’s younger clubmates;

‘Arlo is definitely in safe hands with your incredible wife, unbelievable family, and more uncles and aunties than he will ever know what to do with. I promise you will always be with him through the stories we share with him, and he will always know just how special his dad was. I promise I’ll tell him the stories about his superhero dad who tamed monstrous waves and conquered the channel of bones’.

Emily and Arlo Kirkby have been supported by many of you who have wanted, in some way large or small, to help. As friends of Tim & Emily’s family, we have created this fundraiser that allows for that opportunity.

Arlo is all of 12 months of age, and for the next 20 years, he will have a chance to achieve his dreams, whatever they may become, through our support, goodwill and generosity. ‘Support for Tim’s Dream for Emily & Arlo’ is more than a fitting farewell – it is a new beginning we can all come together to cherish, honour and support.

We, the friends and family of Tim & Emily, thank you for your support.
