Tiffany Piraino is not your typical 22-year-old.  In fact, her life is far from typical ever since she was a teen Tiffany always helped other people.  At the age of 15 she left school to work full time just to do her part in contributing to her home.  Both of Tiffany’s parents were battling with their own disabilities so she needed to leave school and work.  One could say that life forced her into adult responsibilities as a teen.

Two years ago, Tiffany’s everyday life was like that of most 20-year old’s.  She was always on the move, keeping herself busy.  Tiffany worked at Hello Betty as a Prep Cook.   Her everyday life consisted of contributing to society in the best way she knew how.  Working in customer service is no easy task.  You have to have thick skin to be in the food industry, the hours are long. The work is vigorous.  The pressure to keep up with the customer demand is intense.  Not the ideal situation for the faint of heart.

One morning, Tiffany notice something out of the ordinary.  She noticed a small lump on her neck.  Over the course of time she had it looked at by medical professionals.  The diagnosis came back inconclusive and it seemed like no big deal.  She just kept an eye on the small lump.

June 16, 2018 everything changed.  Tiffany could not run around like she used to.  She noticed that she was easily tired and feeling winded all the time.  She went back to the hospital for more tests.  This time the doctors completed a biopsy on the lump.  They determined that she had cancer, Stage 2B Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Battling this disease is extremely challenging.  While the three rounds of Chemo that was done in two months does a great job on the cells effected with cancer.  It simultaneously destroys the nearby good cells.  This constant battle within the body has practically impossible for Tiffany to continue to work in the industry that she so dearly loves.

Unable to earn a regular pay check, Tiffany now has to live off of disability. She had to learn how to change everything in her life.  She now has to get accustomed to staying indoors.  Her typical day involves reading, meditating and watching movies.  Tiffany’s faith in God keeps her going on a day to day basis.  In Tiffany’s own words she has said “. For as long as I can remember I “didn’t feel good,” after multiple misdiagnoses and failed attempts to figure out the struggle, I was living in my own hell”. This has been the craziest ride of my life on top of trying to be a productive member of society, I can’t even prepare a plate of food for myself.”  Indeed, this is uncharted territory for her.
