Theo's Journey, love of a Golden
Donation protected
As some of you know, I have been tube feeding Theo, a pup from a current litter since June 11th. He was born just 9 ounces with a will to live. Theo was not only small, he was born with a cleft palate. I spoke with several vets, breeders and anyone else that was willing to chat. Most of them said I should have Theo put down, as it was costly, time consuming and most likely I was headed for heart ache. It has been scary a few times. Theo has been into the emergency vet twice, on oxygen for 12+ hours and at one point I actually considered letting him go. My goal is to give him all I can but not at the expense of his suffering. Well, I am a bit stubborn and feel that each puppy produced by my dogs is worth every moment that I have to give to them. I have been feeding him every 2 to 3 hours this entire time. I have finally been able to go back to sleeping in my own bed, as of last Friday and Theo is sleeping through the night without additional feedings. Theo is now 3 lbs, 2 oz. and beginning to eat solid foods. He is vigorous, healthy and stealing my heart!!
I intend on having the cleft palate surgically repaired and have had the specialist give me an estimate of more than 6,000.00 dollars. Many people have told me that from a financial and business aspect, it makes no sense to do this. Again, i am stubborn and don't need it to make sense. From an emotional aspect, it doesn't make sense not to. My hope is to work with Theo and be certified as a therapy dog team and visit hospitals with children going in for surgery to share our story give snuggles and show them how Theo came through his surgery. I have now decided that i will be starting a GoFundMe page for Theo and his surgery. I am already about 2000.00 in on vet bills and don't want to give up on him!! We are hoping to have the surgery by the time he is 4 months old. He is now just over 1 month and growing every day. Our prayers are that he will be strong enough to have the surgery earlier than 4 months. Please help to support Theo on his journey to give back to our community and show just how much love he has to give.
