Hello my name is Meredith, and I am the mom of a beautiful boy with special needs. My goal, passion, and plan is to create a private non-profit school for children with special needs in Forsyth County, Georgia. As the parent of Lucas, a five-year-old with multiple special needs, I am facing his transition from public Special Ed Pre-K to a typical public kindergarten classroom next year. While the local public school districts are very strong, the closest "special" school available to us at present is an hour away. There is no private K-8 special educational setting available to us that will truly meet the unique needs of my child. Our family is not alone in this.
There is a strong and beautiful local community of special children and families here, whose voices need to be heard. The S.O.U.L. School will begin the journey of uniting our voices together to bring about unparalleled changes to the limits of today's local educational opportunities. We will have teachers, therapists, staff, and volunteers as part of our school who will all strive to meet the unique needs of each special child. As we well know, our children repeatedly blow away the preconceived limitations set forth for them by experts, doctors, and conventional testing. As an experiential educational setting, each child will be encouraged to surpass their diagnoses and overcome their personal obstacles in a manner that is tailored to, supportive of, and safe for them. There will also be an after-school program with trained professionals available to provide flexibility to busy parents.
My business plan is an exciting and thorough one--with a multitude of different resources for families like mine. Our outreach will include hosting events, speakers, conferences, and camps. We will have a resource center, which is something there is a high demand and desperate need for--and not just in Forsyth County. I look forward to sharing more details and plans with you as we move along this meaningful journey. There is a national need for an experiential special education school like ours. Our work begins at home: serving the surrounding Georgia communities of Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Cherokee counties. The S.O.U.L. School will change our community in a phenomenal way, and dramatically better the education and lives of the children it serves.
Even if you are not local to our area, please know that the long-term goal of The S.O.U.L. School is to make our way to you and your community as we progress onward. First we must begin the process by making The S.O.U.L. School a reality. I'm determined to do it, however I certainly cannot do it alone. Donations, love, passion, and support from all over the world are welcome to help build the S.O.U.L. family. We have the potential to change the lives of some of the most remarkable children and families you will ever meet.
