Our Story
“The Retiree” is a film adapted from a short story by Russell Banks called "Former Marine". It tells the story of Connie, a retired Marine who has worked hard his whole life in order to support his three sons. When he is let go from his job at the auction house, he must go to drastic measures to pay the bills and remain independent in his old age.
Who Are We?
We are a group of student filmmakers from Ohio University’s School of Media Arts and Studies. While we are producing “The Retiree” for a grade, this film is so much more to us than that! Many of us plan to pursue careers in filmmaking after graduation, and gaining experience on high quality films like this is the only way we can truly prepare ourselves for our futures. We plan to create a professional final product that will not only be moving, but will also help us get our foot in the door with future projects and employers.
Why Help Us?
The cost of filmmaking adds up. If you help us, your dollar will go toward renting quality equipment, paying professional actors, transportation, props and costumes, locations, and so much more.
Our crew needs to raise all of the money for this film from scratch, and we aren’t simply asking for handouts. Throughout the semester we will be holding various additional fundraisers and working with organizations to sponsor us. We are all incredibly passionate about this film, and even more committed to making sure it is equipped with everything it needs to be done right.
