The RBP’s Support Our Season Fund!

The Right Brain Project is proud to present the world premiere of ODESSA by Michaela Heidemann this September! We are so excited to share this story with Chicago, but we need your help. Since our company went itinerant over a year ago, we now have the added expense of renting rehearsal and performance spaces. While we’ve been able to put our first deposit down for our performance space, we need your help in raising the rest of the $3,500 to produce this fantastic script!  But first - we want to tell you a little bit about how special this show is...

"What is Odessa about anyway?"

Set in the catacombs beneath Odessa, Ukraine (a seemingly endless network of underground tunnels): our story centers around Andrew, an American journalist, and Dariya, a Ukrainian scammer. Andrew is drugged and left for dead in the tunnels by Dariya and her cohorts...but Dariya returns for him. As they attempt to escape the underground labyrinth together, they become more and more lost, and the catacombs appear to have a mind of their own.

Will they find their way out? Will their flashlights run out of batteries, leaving them to rot in the tunnels? Join us to find out!

A note from Michaela Heidemann (playwright):

"Odessa is a show that’s invested in two energies best experienced live: comedy and fear. It’s a show that’s interested in the electricity in the air behind your neck when you’re in the dark. And at the base of it, it’s a show about two great characters who are all alone, fighting for their lives."

In the past seventeen years, The RBP has evolved and found a concentration on intimate theatre that strives to bring the actor and the audience together in unique fashions. Whether that be through unexpected and intimate staging, clever design, or simply telling stories that unearth the rawest of emotions for audiences, the RBP strives to present daring work that leaves its patrons moved, shaken, and elated.

In Spring of 2017, the legacy of The Right Brain Project was passed on to a new generation of theater practitioners, led by an entirely female-identifying leadership team. Following last year's national premiere of the Cuban classic, ""Electra Garrigó", The RBP bid farewell to the Rorschach performance space, in hopes that an itinerant company would allow The RBP to fulfill their mission of becoming more accessible to multiple neighborhoods and demographics. The RBP have since held their sing-alongs, SpeakEasy Showcases and productions ("Raised in Captivity" by Nicky Silver) in multiple venues around Chicago.

Startlingly intimate, proudly raw, and innately political, The Right Brain Project is excited to stage further productions that reflect the passions of both our artists and audiences. Learn more about our Mission, Productions & Creative Team Here.
