Thanks to the incredible support and generosity of the international community, we have achieved our fundraising target for the replacement of our phone system from both donations made on this site and in person. This was an amazing response. We cannot thank you all enough.

Running for the Center was set up initially to raise funds for the running costs of our counseling Center in Hsinchu. For those of you who would like to continue giving this is what this fund will now be focused on supporting. This fund will remain open until the day of the marathon (18th December 2011).

What is the Community Services Center?

The Community Services Center is a Taipei-based non-profit organization founded in 1987 to offer support services to the international community in Taiwan. Our services and programs include:
- Counseling, including Crisis Response
- Newcomer Orientation Programs
- Cross-Cultural Training for the Workplace
- English Language Publications, including Taipei Living, which is the essential guidebook for living in Taipei; Centered on Taipei; Taipei Escapes 1 and 2
- Information and Referral Services
- Programs and Education, including \'Survival Chinese\'.

What are we raising money for?

This year the Community Services Center running team is back in action! What started as a one-man fund raising effort last year by Rakesh Sinha has this year expanded and grown. In 2010, Rakesh ran the full marathon at the Fubon Marathon in Taipei, raising over NT$265,000 to help open our Hsinchu counseling office.

This year, The Center needs a new phone system. This is a major expense that could not be planned for as the damage to our geriatric system was caused by a recent power outage during routine maintenance. So this year The Center Running Team will be running to raise funds for a new phone system for our Taipei office.

Earlier this month (November, 2011) the power company did some routine maintenance which meant we had a power outage at the office. Unfortunately this caused our geriatric phone system to explode - meaning that whilst it seems that we are (for the moment) still receiving incoming calls, we are unable to reliably make outgoing calls; including something as simple as "dial one" when contacting an emergency ward of a hospital "“ something that we do frequently need to be able to do. We have been advised that we need to replace the whole switchboard and phone sets. Since our phone system is a lifeline for the whole international community we feel it is extremely important to make sure our phone system is working properly and reliably, all of the time. Of course, this will cost a significant amount of money which is why this is our main fundraising goal for this year\'s Fubon marathon.
