This is my friend Anthony. I have known him for almost a year now and as long as I’ve known him, I’ve never seen him without a smile on his face or without a kind, encouraging word to say.

When I heard his life story and what he has gone through, I wanted to do something special to help make his life just a little bit easier.

At a very young age Anthony was subjected to severe physical and mental abuse. As a result of many years of this type of abuse, Anthony was clinically diagnosed as having PTSD, and still suffers from it almost 50 years later.

Anthony's PTSD manifests itself most frequently in the form of night terrors. Often times, in an unconscious state, he gets up from a terror, trying to escape his attackers, and runs into a wall or other furniture in his bedroom, and causes himself to have a concussion.

About 10 years ago, Anthony was also the unfortunate victim of a hit-and-run drunk driver, who was never apprehended, causing him brain damage, and in turn he literally had to learn to walk and even tie his own shoes again.

Unbelievably, after having gone through so much trauma in his life from a young age, Anthony is the sweetest, most humble, and loving person I know. I wonder some days how he manages to smile; and, as I said before, I have never seen him without a smile on his face, even on the days when his anxiety is extremely high and he can't leave his home.

Anthony loves to help others who are in need when he can. He visits with animals who have been rescued from abusive homes and he just loves seeing them come back to life and learn to trust and love again. He gives these animals what he never got as a child, LOVE!

He is a loving friend to the elderly and those who have similar backgrounds as him. He visits with them, helps them do daily tasks, and sometimes, is just a listening ear.

Even though Anthony has been through so much, he is constantly grateful for the love and moral support he has received from friends over the years.

Having been clinically diagnosed as having PTSD, and not having any family, Anthony was deemed unfit to make decisions on his own and therefore has been a ward of the state for most of his life. He receives disability income, however it only covers a portion of his housing, medical, and insurance costs, which leaves him short each month. In addition, he has to subsist on food provided by a local food bank, which is all processed foods; no fresh meat, fruit, or veggies; just boxed and canned goods. He also only receives $16 per month in food stamps from the government, which can't buy him the food he needs that the food bank can't provide.

I am hoping to raise money to create a fund for Anthony to get the mental health assistance and healthy nutrition he needs to get better. He is currently on a number of prescribed medications but would like to take a more natural approach to his recovery. Also, studies have shown that a healthy diet and natural supplements can help with the effects of PTSD and other mental trauma.

Having only a 5th grade level education, Anthony also has the dream of learning to read. All reading ability he had acquired up to the 5th grade was lost due to brain trauma from the abuse and the motor vehicle accident.

Anthony is an amazing human being and his life has given him lemons. But he has not once complained about it; he's making lemonade and sharing it with those he loves and cares for.

Please help make Anthony's new year brighter. Donate to The Anthony Fund and let's show him that he is loved and that love can sometimes come from so many different and unexpected places!

Thank you!
