I have written a uplifting fast paced comedy with music titled THE FUNKY FRESH TALES OF F.T.C! (FairyTaleCity)
This fun show gives voice to all those kids who grew up in cities and never saw themselves in Fairytales. We explore themes of Inequality, Diversity and then fight Bullies with Dragons and Enchantreses and a whole LOT OF LOVE! I think it's time to empower our youth. So here I am, hoping you do too! The break down for the funds go directly to cost of theater, actors, musicians, scripts, travel and rehearsal space needed for it's professional staged reading.
The scheduled reading will be December 3rd with an afternoon and evening performance. (Wait what? but that is so soon!) I KNOW. That's Showbiz! And I will need to raise the money by Nov, 10 , 2017 to be able to secure all! I BELIEVE. It's all going to happen with your help! So exciting!
Me? I am myself the latch-key son of a strong Puerto Rican single Mom growing up in Big NEW YORK CITY. My childhood was spent play acting and daydreaming of a day where I would see myself in mainstream media and Musical Theater. That of course led to me being a professional working Actor in the Biz for over 25 years. Now, it is my turn to honor all those kids whom I grew up with and open the doors in their minds to dream, grow and achieve by presenting positive portrayals of inner city youth. What better way than write a Big city Fairytale about them?!
When I'm not singing and dancing in a Musical or Writing, I work as my alter ego MARIOLIO at special kids events as a comic and magical puppeteer with my puppets the HIP HOPPETS. Over the years I listened to kids open to me about there issues and fears, the future and their constant self esteem battles in a world of Bullies. I decided its time I write something tailored to those kids.
Sesame street, The Electric company, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Whoopie Goldberg, John Leguizamo, Lily Tomlin, Rap,PopRock,Salsa and Broadway Musicals are all Big influences in my work...and yes Fairytales! I am inspired by all aspects of Theater Arts that seek to lift spirits, boost self esteem and edify the soul. Hopefully that is what is reflected in the heart of my work as a writer and Playwright. In my show THE FUNKY FRESH TALES OF F.T.C. I tackle female empowerment, the struggle to learn from those who are different than you, and the wisdom of fighting back bullying with Love. I think this is a pretty good price to show ALL THAT Right? LOL!
This reading would be the exciting 1st step in presenting my show to an audience and to those who would like to invest/produce in a future fully realized Stage Production.
The music of Amazing Composer ANDREW DAVID SOTOMAYOR will be featured in this exciting reading and the Direction and staging is by COLTON JAMES POMETTA.
