I'm a 24 year veteran police officer of a large Sheriff's Office in Washington State. On Monday, February 9, I returned to my parked patrol car after attending a meeting to discover damage to the driver's side of my car. Someone had left their business card on my car and it was clear they had accidentally struck my car when attempting to park. I called the phone number and learned the other driver was a 90 year old veteran of World War II. He was extremly apologetic and agreed to meet me the next morning but explained he was "old" and liked to sleep in, asking if we could meet at 11 am.
He showed up the next day and repeatedly apologized for his driving error. He reports this is his first accident in his 80 year driving career (yes he started driving in rural Washington at the age of 10!). He is a veteran of WWII and spent 2 years of combat in Italy delivering supplies to the front line and carrying wounded soldiers on stretchers several miles to treatment areas.

I posted on my Facebook page what had happened my desire to just let the accident go away out of respect for his service and sacrifice. Immediately, several friends suggested we start a Gofundme campaign and take care of his bill.
Anything you would like to contribute will go directly towards the repair bill. He had an old car and has no desire to fix the minor damage to it. The repair estimate is $2,332.50 and any money collected above this amount will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Any amount would be appreciated and demonstrates our respect and appreciation for the sacrice of this brave Veteran. Thank you!
