Friends of Teresa

I am writing to you today to tell you about Teresa Thompson. She and I have worked together for nearly the last 5 years. I manage a CVS and she has been the Lead Technician in the pharmacy. She has been a Lead Technician for more than 20 years. During this time she has helped more people than we could possibly count on their way to better health. Teresa didn’t just fill prescriptions; she took the time to know each and every person that came to her. She knows practically everyone by their name and knows something about their lives as well. No one was ever just another customer. Her compassion for all the people that came to her was evident by the hugs she would give along with the personal attention to each. Often she would come from around the counter and just have a conversation with them. It is very common for people to come in the store and ask for her and if she isn’t working they would inquire as to when she would return. It wasn’t always a prescription they needed, sometimes they just wanted to say hello and get a hello back from her.
She has been married for 22 years (my best guess) to Bobby and has 2 wonderful children. Marissa is a junior in college and Joseph is a sophomore in high school.
About 3 years ago her husband Bobby had a stroke. At the time he was paralyzed on one side and could not work. He has regained most of his movement but is not able to work. This of course put a strain on their finances but Teresa always kept a smile on her face and her positive attitude was evident every day. She continued to keep her patients care at the fore front.
This past November Teresa went to the doctor for some pain she was experiencing. After a few tests and a couple doctors she was diagnosed with a couple of tumors. Treatment was to begin on January 2 (what a way to start the New Year). It was to be aggressive with daily radiation and weekly chemo.
At the end of the treatments her follow up showed that one of the tumors had gotten smaller but the cancer had metastasized and was now in her lungs. Further tests discovered it was now in her lungs, lymph nodes and below her heart. They are going to put in a port and start chemo again but her condition is stage 4.
She loves her family more than life itself. Anything she can do with them makes her happy. She is very close with her daughter Marissa; many of us think she looks like a little Teresa. Since the diagnosis Marissa has been commuting to college rather than staying on campus so she can help take care of her mom. Marissa has plans to be a Vet. Teresa goes to all of her sons archery events and has been by his side through years of going to Boy Scouts. She likes to fish and she loves her dogs.
Teresa is the kind of person you feel better for knowing. After meeting her you realize you would have missed out on something if you hadn’t had the opportunity. Every day that came to work I looked forward to seeing her and saying hello.
She was on LOA which helped but she will not be able to return to work now. With her husband not being able to work it has become very difficult. I and everyone who works at the store want to do as much as we can for Teresa so she can enjoy every moment she can with her family without the stress of everyday life.
We are helping to build a fund that could help with medical bills, tuition, daily expenses and other basic family needs.
