Tenure Track: The Musical

Donation protected
We are not saving lives or making potato salad.  But maybe we’re starting a revolution.  And as promised, there will be puppets.

The Story
Tenure Track: The Musical is the story of a lowly adjunct who fights to win her place in academia--and even participates in an epic rap battle between literary theorists Roland Barthes and Harold Bloom--she is forced to question her career path, relationships, and hairdo.  Will she stay true to her lofty ideals of liberal education or join ranks with her puppet peers in the pursuit of free iPads and dental insurance?

Songs include:
Professor’s Life for Me-- a rollicking sea shanty that celebrates the misconceptions of academic life.

B-School-- An epic, Queen-esque celebration of the success of capitalism in bringing economic prosperity to all.

Best Practices are Best-- a post-modern rap battle between literary theorists Roland Barthes and Harold Bloom--who will win???

Why We Need Your Money
We wrote the musical after dropping out of academia so we’re not even adjunct poor.  We look back on Aldi with fond rememberences of luxury.

We recently produced a scene from our musical as a part of the Women’s Theatre Alliance in Chicago’s New Play Development Workshop (we passed the Bechdel Test!).  Now we’re ready to see the whole thing on its feet.  We have a space for next to nothing.  However, unlike most universities, we’d like to pay the people who contributed to this cultural creation.

Costs for this Production
insurance costs
PR & printing
puppet materials
the band
the director
video recording
scoring (not that kind of scoring.  well maybe that kind too)

Want to see where your money is going?  The show will be produced on March 9th at the Apollo Theatre Chicago’s studio space.  We won’t even ask for a few extra days to finish the script.
