The teen years are a time of many transitions, both difficult and beautiful. For the past 28 years we have given a voice to the creative expression of hundreds of thousands of teenagers – a voice they desperately needed. Countless times we have heard from our teen users: “You were there when I needed help. You told me I had value and I actually started to believe it. You provided a place where I felt safe and good about myself. You saved my life.”
Teen Ink is a FREE platform for teens to submit their creative works and have a chance to be published in a national magazine that is circulated in about 20,000 schools and homes of fellow teenage students.
Now Teen Ink is undergoing a difficult transition of its own. Our print magazine, which has been published without interruption for 280 issues, is struggling to retain advertisers, which are universally abandoning print media. Our website, which attracts 12 million teens and has 380,000 registered users (despite being woefully outdated), desperately needs vital upgrades. Now, like our teenage users, we need sympathetic friends to give us a boost and keep us from going under in this time of transition.
Won’t you tell us that we have value when we most need to hear it? In this age of rapidly evolving technology, teenagers have more influences than ever, and so many of them are not positive. Now, more than ever, they need a webspace and creative platform that is safe, supportive, and focused on creation – of writing skills, college futures, and social networks that are helpful, not hurtful.
