On January 28th, 2013 , Zack Irby ( 23 years old ) was in a life changing car accident. He suffered from a broken pelvis, a fractured wrist and a Diffused Axonal Traumatic Brain Injury. (the worst brain injury a human can sustain) The Highway patrolman on the scene reported a non responsive body in the mangeled automobile. During the thirty minutes it took to cut Zack out of the car an EMS climbed into the wreckage and pumped oxygen into Zack's mouth. He survived long enough to be air lifted to the hospital. At the hospital and in a coma, the doctors gave his parents the horrible news that Zack would never recover physically nor mentally beyond being a vegetable.
Anyone who knows Zack knows he has always had the will and the drive to do amazing things and always on his own terms.
Well Zack has defied the odds and has the doctors rethinking the possible. Zack is a 1% survivor and now he is the 1% of the 1% because he has not only survived but he has full cognitive understanding .......AND HE WILL LET YOU KNOW HE IS NOT DONE!!!
Zack has proclaimed that he will walk again and he repeats this to everyone and anyone who talks with him.
The insurance companies have looked at Zack's charts and say he does not qualify for advanced rehabilitation. Thats because up until now, there have been no Zack Irbys!! Every doctor and every therapist who sees him do the impossible every day say that Zack is only limited on paper and his recovery may help rewrite policy.
Without his families tireless support and attention Zack would have been labeled and left with no hope. What Zack and his family have done to get to this point has been epic and now they need help to keep Zack's dream of walking alive and possible.
There is a one of a kind machine called the Quadrasiser invented by a man in Knoxville, Tennesssee. This machine would allow Zack to continue to rehab himself as if he had 5 therapists, even in his home. The machine is $15,000.
