Hello everyone! Thank you for taking the time to listen to our story!! I am not a very public person, so asking for help is very difficult for me. After a lot of soul searching, I finally decided to ask for help. I do not want to suffer from chronic pain any longer and I am desperate to find a way out of our medical debt. I need one more surgery that is $ 18,000 to remove a damaged nerve. I do not want my family to suffer from this huge cloud of debt that is over us due to all of my medical bills. We work very hard and at the end of the day its still not enough.
I will give you a look into our world and my medical problems so you can understand why we need your help. I was 28 year years old when we became pregnant with our first child. We were so happy and excited to bring this new addition to our family. When Addi was born, I had to have an emergency C-section due to complications from delivery. At that time, we did not know how drastically my life would change in many different ways.
Shortly after having her, I developed pain in my abdomen and pelvic area. After a long 2 year battle with doctors, they finally diagnosed me with pelvic vein congestion from the pregnancy. It was great to finally have answers, but unfortunately I had to have a hysterectomy to correct this problem. This was devastating news to my husband and I, as we wanted more children in the future. I knew it was something that I had to do for my family and myself. We were very fortunate to have a beautiful healthy daughter. I was hoping this surgery would fix everything, but it only caused more problems and more pain.
A few months after the hysterectomy, I developed a different type of pain in my pelvic area. Once again, I started the search for answers and finally found that I had nerve damage that was caused by the hysterectomy. For those of you who do not know, nerve pain is difficult to treat and the pain is relentless. Since having my daughter in 2010, I have seen 15 doctors, had least 7 surgeries, many anesthetic blocks and been prescribed so many different medications. I have tried everything to make my life manageable and to escape the pain that haunts me every day. I cannot sit or stand for more than 10 minutes at a time. The pain is a burning, tingling and aching kind of pain and it NEVER goes away!! I no longer feel like I have control of my life because my pain dictates what I can and cannot do. My daughter has sadly only known a mommy who is in constant pain and that limits what I can do for her. I want to be able to give her more.
A little over a year ago, several doctors told me that nothing else could be done to help me. I am 35 years old, have a beautiful 6-year-old daughter and a full life ahead of me so I was not going to stop searching for help. After a lot of searching, I found that there are only a few doctors scattered throughout the US that could help me. I found the most experienced neurosurgeon in Maryland. We flew out to see him in July and we got some wonderful news. He felt that he could help me have a pain free life!! I had the first of two surgeries on September 7th in Maryland. He removed four damaged nerves and the surgery was successful for a large portion of my pain. I still have pain in another area and I hope to have the remaining damaged nerves removed soon. I NEED YOUR HELP to have this surgery.
We paid $30,000 up front for the first surgery. Dealing with the insurance company has been an absolute nightmare. We are waiting now to see what, IF ANY, they will reimburse us. We have also spent about $5,000 travel expenses alone. Therefore, we have spent $35,000 on the first surgery and it is not over yet. I need one more surgery that will cost us $18,000 up front.
