Team Tristan

Today, August 20, 2014, my baby sister Heather Schwind gave birth to her son, Tristan Edward Burley. He was born at only 27 weeks. He weights 1lb 8oz. Tristan will had to remain in NICU at the Women’s Hospital in Houston, TX.
Heather was in the hospital for a week because baby Tristan continued to engage and wanted to come early. The doctors were most concerned for the baby because of his lack of lung development so they gave Heather two rounds of steroids attempting to kick start his lungs into high gear.
They decided on, August 19, 2014, that because of Heather's high blood pressure it was in both of their best interest to prepare for a C-Section and introduced baby Tristan into this world on August 20, 2014. Tristan was a little fighter and over came many obstacles that surprised his doctors, nurses and his family and friends.

Unfortunately, without notice, Tristan became ill overnight on September 14, 2014. He had an infection known as NEC, “When babies are born prematurely, many of their organs are not fully developed. This puts them at risk for a number of diseases within the first weeks of life.
One of these diseases is necrotizing enterocolitis (nek-roh-TIE-zing en-ter-oh-coh-LIE-tis), the most common and serious intestinal disease among preemies. Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) happens when tissue in the small or large intestine is injured or begins to die off. This causes the intestine to become inflamed or, in rare cases, develop a hole (perforation). When this happens, the intestine can no longer hold waste, so bacteria and other waste products pass through the intestine and enter the baby's bloodstream or abdominal cavity.

On September 15, 2014, the doctors went in for surgery to try to repair baby Tristan, however, the damage was far to great and there was nothing more they could do to help save him. So the dreadful news came that morning and after all his fighting, his little body wasn’t going to be able to over come this infection.

Heather and Corey were able to have baby Tristan baptized before he passed away. Baby Tristan passed, while in the arms of his mommy and daddy who loved him more then he could ever have known. Please pray for my sister and Corey, so they may try and find some peace in this horrific situation. These parents face the dreadful task of making arrangements to lay their child to rest. This is a task that no parent should have to face. The cost for his services are $5,000.00.
If you can help by donating any amount of money in order to relieve some of the worry they are going through or share this story with others and spread the word so we can try to lift as much burden for these parents as possible. Our family would greatly appreciates all help and all prayers.
