On November 2nd, 2014, eight members of Team NoRegrets will run the TCS NYC Marathon—a 26.2-miles (42.195km) journey through all 5 boroughs of NYC with the finish line at Central Park.
This is the first marathon for all eight of us—Junwoo Bae, Sunghyun Bang, Eunil Cho, Duke Kim, Donna Lee, Jinsung Lee, Donghwan Moon & Jamie Song—and frankly, we are scared, inspired, and excited all at once.
In line with our team’s mission statement:
“…While providing a means to get fit, our team also functions as a platform to make our community and hopefully the world a better place to live…”
We want to extend the reach of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and share your support with our friends of a small African community called Mwatundo (Kenya) through an initiative of Mtree, a non-profit charity group.
The region of Mwatundo used to be under the illegal ownership, and after years of dispute, the government intervened and decided to distribute the land to a thousand homeless families (2012). The families have started moving into the land, but most cannot afford to build or complete a house; houses are with partial roofs and walls, and no flooring.
Mtree brings young designers from around the globe to deliver hope to poor communities in Africa. In 2013, Mtree kicked off their long-term project called FIC (Fit In Community). FIC team designed and built a prototype house, utilizing on-site local resources and recycled materials. The group spent time teaching their design/construction guidelines, and in return, the Mwatundo community shared their culture alongside the local construction methods. Throughout the project the whole community worked together as a team and built not only a house but a growing hope for the community.
Team NoRegrets wants to be a part of Mtree's FIC project and help the people of Mwatundo create a better place to live.
In reaching our goal of $5,000, this donation will be used to design a village masterplan and build a community center for Mwatundo in 2015.
