Kat's Breast Cancer Fighting Fund!!

Donation protected
It’s October 1st.
The start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
I’ve always had such perfect timing lol!

Did you know 1 in 8 woman are diagnosed with Invasive Breast Cancer?

Hi! I’m Katrina (Kat to most) and in May of this year I was diagnosed with Stage 3A Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Breast Cancer).

Yeah- Scary stuff!!

So a cancer cell’s “Grade” is determined by how fast the cells are splitting and growing. Grade 3 is the most abnormal & fastest growing cells. Which means it will spread the fastest. (Not to be confused with “Stage 3”. Although, in my case, I’m also Stage 3A).

Since my tumours were determined to be in Grade 3 (fastest growing/spreading) my oncologist said it was imperative to get treatment started ASAP before it could spread any farther. I already had a 5cm tumour in my axillary lymph node (armpit) and 2 tumours in my left breast, 4cm & 3cm.

This urgency gave my husband and I very little time to prepare financially for the road ahead.

I have the greatest support system here with my husband, family and friends and I hate to ask for more help but we have used up our options.

My husband is working full-time for us but it’s not enough on his own. We’ve drained our savings, maxed out credit cards and taken out a loan just to get through the past 5 months of co-pays and procedures and prescription fills and regular bills. I still have 2 more chemo treatments and several months to go with other treatments (surgery, radiation and hormone therapy) and recovery before I can return to full-time work.

I went from: Working 60+ hrs a week (was saving to go to my birthplace, Greenland, to meet my birthmother for the first time since I was 9 months old! Eek, right?!! Well, I’ll get there next year!)
to: Only being well enough to work a handful of times in the past 3 months since chemo started.
For a woman who’s seen as unstoppable by many, this is unbearable!

I grew up surrounded by great people who always lent a helping hand and who gave back to the community and I have remained being active in fundraisers and charity events and helping those in need. When I am through this and we’re back on our feet again, I promise to continue to pay it forward and continue in my efforts to help those in need. Thank you for your help and thank you for you!!

And because it’s October- aka Breast Cancer Awareness Month- I would like to end by reminding you all to make sure you’re all doing your monthly self-exams!!!

Ladies AND gents!!

I met a guy a few months ago who had a breast lump which thankfully for him turned out to be benign (non-cancerous).

Do those exams, people!!!

Know yourself and know what doesn’t feel right and get it checked out!! Believe me- you don’t want to wait as long as I did to get checked! I got very lucky that my cancer cells were happy making tumours rather than spreading to organs!

Early detection is the best way to beat this thing! Please look into free clinics if you don’t have insurance and don’t be afraid to reach out when you need help navigating this scary situation!

If you know anyone who could use some first-hand
~Info, Insight, Inspiration~
Please feel free to message me their contact info and I’d be happy to help talk anyone through the process I’m going through. It helps to chat with people who know exactly what it’s like! Don’t be afraid to reach out!

I believe people are good and want to help!! Thank you all for your help now!!
