On Friday, August 8, 2014, the Bartholomew family received the devastating news that their 15 year old son Joseph had cancer after a biopsy was done from a tumor in his foot. The original prognosis was a very serious and rare bone cancer, but later the doctors realized the cancer was not in his bone marrow, but was Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, which was found in his right foot and knee, his left foot and lower leg, and his right wrist. Although this type of cancer is not as aggressive as bone cancer, he will still need to receive chemotherapy over a three-year span to hopefully rid him of his cancer. His first chemo treatment was started on Thursday, August 21, 2014 and although he was saddened at the prospect of missing the first day of his 10th grade year with all of his friends, he has maintained a positive outlook. He has never once complained about his cancer or protested any of his four surgical procedures thus far. He is a fighter, and will get through this with the help and prayers from his family, friends and community.
Joseph is an amazing individual with a huge passion for sports. He would love to study sports journalism in college and work for ESPN. He is on The Colony golf team and loves baseball. For the past year and a half, Joseph and his mom Shawna, have been an active part of YMSL, a philanthropy mother/son group in The Colony, TX. Joseph spent 20 hours last year helping his community doing various community service projects. It is his hope to beat this cancer so he can continue making a positive impact.
No parent wants to hear that his or her child has cancer. The Bartholomew family is going to do all they can to turn their seemingly healthy young man cancer free. Unfortunately, that comes with a high financial cost. With our help, we can lessen their financial burden so they can put all of their focus on getting Joseph well again. Let’s all join hands and show the Bartholomew family our utmost love and support.

UPDATE:
"Joseph, Anna and Michael are all doing well. We have a had 3 chemotherapy treatments and have seen an amazing reduction of the tumor on his right foot. I mean really amazing!! It's gone from the size of a softball to nearly nothing.
The treatments do cause quite a bit of nausea, so venturing out (even to school) has been difficult. Home bound school starts this week so Joseph can keep up with his classes. Yeah!
Anna has done an excellent job to date managing his homework pick up and drop off. Thanks! Sis! Brother Michael has been Joseph's right-hand man, getting snacks and water.
Again we are blessed with a great, supportive community and I thank you all for continued prayers and especially meals and help on treatment days. Weekly chemo treatments will continue for 27 more weeks - whew!
My sister, Michelle, was able to fly down from Nebraska to help out this past week. Thank you again Dave for the Southwest buddy pass. It really meant a lot!!
