Team Tilly enters its next phase on Saturday, September 14th
when sixteen amazing friends and family will put their lives on the line
running the 2013 Tough Mudder! Seriously, though the course details are kept
secret until the day-of, they can "expect a hefty dose of mud, ice, fire,
and electric shocks" (surprise!) throughout this 10-12 mile obstacle
course. Needless to say, this is a step above your grade school fitness test.
This dedicated group is raising money for Matilda (Tilly) McRoberts, an incredible three-year-old diagnosed with Type II spinal muscular atrophy just a year ago. This degenerative motor neuron disease currently has no treatment and no cure; its devastating effects include an inability to walk, progressive muscle wasting, and heightened complications from otherwise normal respiratory illnesses.
All funds raised by the Tough Mudder team will go to buy Tilly a lightweight Panthera wheelchair to compliment her current electric wheelchair. This new "magic chair" will allow Tilly to push herself when possible, build strength, and play with other kids when she goes to preschool this fall. For perspective, Tilly weighs 35 pounds, her current chair weighs 150 pounds, and the new Panthera chair? It weighs FIVE pounds. Insurance only covers (most of) one wheelchair every five years, so the Panthera is totally out of pocket and "“ surprise, surprise - it isn't cheap.
So let's raise some money for Tilly and to show our support for those who are brave enough to Tough Mudder it on her behalf! As she would say herself, "COME ON!"
