My name is Amy Petersen. I am a Marine MoM who has created this page in support of my fellow Marine MoM, Kayse Elzinga. Kayse's son, Adam and my son are both FAST Company Marines assigned to the same duty station.
Adam is a 20 year old United State's Marine. Kayse said that since the time Adam could talk, it has been his dream to be a Marine.
On Wednesday, August 20th, Adam's dreams of being an active duty Marine were cut short when he was seriously injured during a training exercise in VA. There was an accident, which caused Adam to be ejected from an HMMV, which resulted in several serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital where he has remained since that day. Adam faced the first of multiple surgeries without his family by his side. His surgeries have included the partial amputation of his right leg. His recovery has been two steps forward, one step back, with a long road ahead.
Adam comes from an incredibly close family and will need their strength and support as they embark on this unexpected journey. Family support is imperative to every service member but especially to our wounded warriors. The grace, strength, and determination Adam and his family has shown has been unbelievable.
It is because of this, that I have created this page to help his family with these unexpected expenses. The Marine Corps will take care of Adam but I am asking that we all do our part to help take care of this Marine's family, so that they can take care of him. There will be loss of wages, airline tickets, gas, food and other unforeseen expenses. Additionally, there are two other teenagers at home and his parents will need to trade places at times so that everyone is taken care of.
People have continually asked what they can do or what they can send to help. At this time, everything is so overwhelming that the easiest thing we can do is donate financially to help ease the burden. When a family is in crisis, the hardest thing to do is ask for help. I am asking for them. Any amount that you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
