TeJay's Health Journey

Donation protected
Anyone that knows TeJay Holstine would describe him as that funny, happy, and fun-loving kid. Even through his illness, his great attitude prevails. TeJay has many friends from his years at Immanuel Lutheran and O’Leary as well as from his sports teams and church community.  TeJay is a naturally athletic kid who plays sports like baseball, football, skiing, and mountain biking because it is “fun” and usually means extra time with his friends.  He is also a great role model for his younger cousins.

TeJay’s life changed significantly after having an onset of an illness that his brain and body has not fully recovered from. At this point, he is believed to have suffered a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) which has impaired his ability to be a normal 12-year-old boy. In October 2017, TeJay unexpectedly had a serious allergic reaction to a medication which further compromised his nervous system. His nervous system was sensitive after having two hard hits to his head (injuries from the playground -earlier in 2017) and then an incident while playing football.

Over several months, TeJay’s family and friends have watched a sad transformation as his symptoms have shown limited recovery. This care-free 12-year-old now has significant and painful headaches every day, along with constant fatigue, and all the other underlying respiratory/digestive/autoimmune/vestibular/eye issues that he is challenged with working through. Additionally, recent heart tests indicate heart problems.  Overall, medical providers have been very vague in their prognosis for recovery—each with a different time frame of how long it could take TeJay’s body to heal. It is kind of a “wait and see” approach where it could take him 1-3 years or a lifetime to recover. This prognosis is not one that seems acceptable.

He is no longer able to attend school full-time alongside his friends and peers. Friend time is usually brief and greatly dependent on how he’s feeling that day. He has weekly appointments with various specialists, countless tests and re-tests performed, and sees several therapists to help him cope with living with the chronic pain.

As you can imagine, the family has accumulated thousands of dollars in medical bills. TeJay has been in and out of hospitals several times since October. And, unfortunately,  unforeseeable medical expenses are still on the horizon such as additional testing, seeing more specialists, and travel time/expenses. Of note:  TeJay’s brother, Jayten was hospitalized two weeks prior to TeJay’s illness for a virus that attacked his pancreas.

At the end of March 2018, TeJay will be traveling to seek help through an intensive brain recovery program in North Carolina. Based on the testimony of previous patients and clinical results, the program seems to be the most promising in providing an avenue of relief for the headaches and foster healing to his nervous system.

So… the goal amount has two main focuses:

First, our goal is to help alleviate the family from their current medical debt; and, secondly, to help with the upcoming expenses.

The request for help isn’t something akin to them. They are that family who volunteers to help others and in turn, finds it difficult to accept help even when needed. But here’s our chance to help.

Please give whatever you feel led to give. It all makes a difference! And, something incredible and free that would be equally awesome is your prayers and words of encouragement to the family. Please continue to lift TeJay up in your prayers and pray for TeJay’s parents (Tennille & Ryan Kober, Jay Holstine) as they seek the wisdom of God in seeing complete healing and total health.

Thank you so much!
