Please Support my nephew Taylor and our family as we fight brain cancer together.
Just before the 2016 holidays, Taylor had a small area of melanoma removed from just in front of his ear. Doctors gave him a clean bill of health, and back he went to being a straight-A student at Fullerton JC. He was preparing to transfer to a Physician's Assistant program with the dream of helping others through medicine. Then in April 2017 he began to get headaches and tingling in his left arm. My brother took him to urgent care, and the next day this 6'4" strong as an ox 25-year-old was told he has 5 inoperable brain tumors and a terminal diagnosis of brain cancer. We were not aware that melanoma is known for metastasizing to the brain. After the tears and shock and meetings with oncologists, the battle began. First he received global radiation treatments, then focal radiation, and most recently immunotherapy treatments. Now we wait for the next options.
Taylor is spending his life in and out of the hospital. One day he's home fatigued yet appearing to get better, and then he's readmitted due to days and nights of vomiting, 'vice-grip' headaches, seizures, and sleeping in silence and darkness to ease the pain.
SO why am I asking? Because my brother Philip is an extraordinary father doing what any father would do: sitting every day with his oldest son, leaving the hospital late at night, sleeping and eating minimally, and then back each morning ensuring Taylor's treatments are on track, gently massaging his son's scalp, and continually uplifting Taylor that there's still a Light at the end of his tunnel. Philip unceasingly holds love and hope for his son, as do all of us. The next step is getting Taylor to the City of Hope, where there are treatments that his current health care insurance will not provide. . . and those treatments will require funding in excess of $30,000, well beyond what Philip's teaching salary can provide.
We all hope and pray that these treatments have the best possible outcome, where Taylor could pick up his guitar again, or see Eric Clapton this summer with his dad. Or that Taylor will get up the strength up to be able to see his cousin play college football at the USC Colisseum this October.
I believe in miracles. I believe that we can hold the Light for others when they may not be able to hold it for themselves, so I created a Nightlight to remind us of what Faith can do for Health, Wholeness and Healing. It's our way of thanking you. We have a few other gratitude items for joining us in supporting Philip and Taylor, or you may choose to donate and let us know that the gratuity gift is not needed.
