Tanzania Internship and Volunteering

Projects Abroad is one of the largest volunteer abroad organizations in the world, they send around 10,000 people each year on a variety of service projects and internships overseas. Through their program, I became interested in their International Law & Human Rights Internships. International Law & Human Rights internships with Projects Abroad are tailored around assisting lawyers at law firms or NGOs that provide legal services, or actively participate in campaigns to raise awareness of human rights issues. In my specific location, Arusha, Tanzania the program gives interns the opportunity to work alongside a humanitarian organization while gaining direct experience in human rights practice. Interns work directly with the local community, specifically women and widows, by helping to create programs that help women claim their property and inheritance rights. They also help educate the people on legal aid and socio-economic empowerment.

After a vigorous application and interview process, it is my pleasure and honor to be a recipient of this mission. My acceptance to Arusha, Tanzania during summer 2014 has been an accomplishment in itself.

I will be an intern in Arusha working with women and widows. By visiting and engaging in widow groups, I will learn more about the legal and human rights issues they are facing. I will be able to provide these women with assistance in obtaining their income and defending their legal rights. My goal as an intern is to empower women in this community. I hope by participating in this experience, that these women will learn more about their rights and how to stand up for them.

Prior to my travels, I am taking a rigorous online curriculum with a finalized capstone project upon my completion in my international internship experience. However, all my hard work will be hindered without your help.
