Tampered Press

In 2013 I quit my job as a networks and system admin to go look for a writing job. After 2 months of actively searching, I got one as a content editor for one of the biggest (if not the longest surviving) lifestyle magazines in Ghana. It was a great learning experience. So it’s not entirely surprising that I opted to pick “Publishing as a Creative Practice” as one of my courses for this semester – (as I’m finishing of an MFA in Writing at the School of Art Institute in Chicago.) I’ve always been interested in publishing – but more importantly, gatekeeping – Ghana is chock full of artists, but the platforms for participating, learning, failing, relearning, exploring and growing are few and far between. It’s why I chose to publish Tampered Press – both as my end of semester project, and the start of a much needed platform.

Tampered Press is a print magazine that will seek to publish the work of emerging and practicing artists – including but not limited to, writers and visual artists, with a bias for Ghana, and Africa. Content for the magazine will primarily be the work of artists, but will also include profiling artists, critiquing their work, initiating collaboration across disciplines and critical discourse surrounding contemporary art, culture, politics and lifestyle.

Supporting this cause will enable me to pay for a website that will publish digitally every quarter, print and ship 300 copies of the first edition and pay everyone involved in bringing this to fruition, as well as distribute 60% of the copies for free in 20 selected high schools.

If you donate $10 - I will send a thank you note
$20 - thank you + digital copy of the magazine
$50 or more- digital copy of the magazine + your name printed in the magazine as a supporter
$150 - quarter page ad space (2 slots)
$300 - half page ad space (4 slots)
$500 - full page ad space (2 slots)
$700 - double spread ad space (1 slot)

I need to raise the funds in 3 weeks if this is to come alive and I would really appreciate your support. Please support if you can. Thank you! <3
