Nick's talking with technology camp

Donation protected
My son Nick needs $2300.00 to go to a Camp this summer in Colorado put on by Easter Seals and Colorado Children's Hospital.  This is a special needs camp for kids who use computerized talking devices.  Since Nick has complex communication needs he uses his own signs he's created using a computerized speech program to communicate (Predictable) his wants and needs verbally this has made things easier for him and all of us around him.  He has been working with his speech therapist (Mendi Carroll) at Joe's Kids learning to use the program.  Mendi attended the program last year and  learned about this program that Nick has come to really love.  Mendi will be attending the camp with him and be his trainer for a  full week.  She will also be escorting him to camp since the funds just aren't there for the whole family to make the trip.  Mendi will get to spend some one on one time with him 24/7.  Currently she only get's a half an hour a week because that is all the insurance will allow.  I feel like this will assist her in learning his specific speech needs.  Nick will get to do all the fun things that you do at camp and spend the whole week with kids who are like him using a talking device.  At this point Nick doesn't know anyone who uses a device like him and tends to be a bit shy about using it in public.  He spends time each week practicing with his sister.

Brief History:
We got Nick and his sister through the foster care system in 2010.  They were both very delayed, neither talked or were potty trained.  They were not trained socially at all and had no idea how to even play with toys.  After having them about 6 months we were in love and knew if the opportunity arose we would adopt.  After much testing we found out Nick has seizure in the speech portion of his brain.  We believe this is the cause of his speech and language delays.  Brittany has apraxia, (speech disability), but is talking very well now and continues to receive speech.  They both have come a long way and now I would say they are more like average kids, who like to play and socialize.  The speech barrier that Nick continues to experience is causing him to fall behind his peers a little and hinders his ability to communicate so others can understand him affectively.

We Love Nick and know God has great things for him.

Please consider helping him in this next step in his journey.  The following are a few of the links that will help you understand what this camp is all about and who the people are who are working with him and helping through his journey.  Thanks and God Bless!
