Liberian Ebola Prevention

Donation protected

We've worked with Abel, a staff member with the internationally renowned Trauma Healing and Reconciliation Program (THRP) and a teacher, for many years in Liberia.  He has been helping war-affected youth like he was himself, but the recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa has only added to his challenges.

Liberia lacks much of the infrastructure that we take for granted everywhere else, including reliable water and power networks, and resilient systems of administration. The best available means of dealing with emergencies like this are often existing NGOs like THRP.

Now, on an emergency basis, we are asking for funds for THRP's Ebola Awareness and Prevention Campaign.

In his own words received July 30th: "Many of you have heard the news of the Ebola update from West Africa. The news may try to explain what is happening here but the reality of the devastation is unimaginable. I have never ever gotten afraid of any situation in my life as compared to what I am seeing as a result of this Ebola outbreak. My fear as a child soldier battling and surviving cannot be compared to what I am seeing and witnessing. This is an invisible war where I don't see my enemies that are killing my people and making me to live in bondage! There is no refuge neither escapes. Only God can spare the day for anyone to see. Ebola is taking a heavy toll on Liberia and making us to live in severe fear."

"I have lost 18 persons in two weeks, 15 of whom I knew personally that died from Ebola. Almost all major hospitals have closed their doors and nurses and doctors have fled in fear of their life."

"Many of you have been asking how you can help if you want to. I will suggest that donations would be efficient and faster and such fund would be sent to THRP who will send it to us in Liberia to raise more awareness and buy more precautionary materials such as soap, chlorine, chloral, and other forms of disinfectants. These can be used as preventive measures."

Donations will be going to Trinity St. Paul's United Church - LIBERIA Project - Trinity St. Paul's 427 Bloor Street West, Toronto Ontario M5S1X7.
