The Healing Center helps individuals deal with the death of a loved one. But who will help The Healing Center?
For the past 18 years, The Healing Center has opened it's doors and arms to children who have had a parent die, as well as men and women who have had a partner/spouse, friend or family member die. Through support groups and referrals to other resources, The Healing Center makes getting down the path of grief a little easier, and shines a light on a future with increased feelings of hope.
Grief counseling isn’t just a nice thing. It’s an essential thing.
Without capable, professional therapy, the devastating loss of a loved one can lead to a woefully long list of unfortunate outcomes. One in 20 children in the United States has lost a parent by age 18; in King County, this means that 16,960 children have lost a parent to premature death in our community. So the work The Healing Center does isn’t just good for the kids and parents we serve. It’s good for the community.
We have a wonderful home, but it’s not free.
In 2005, The Healing Center moved into a cozy, comforting home in Seattle’s Roosevelt neighborhood. It’s the perfect place for helping kids, widows, and widowers in a non-threatening, familiar environment. But rent and other expenses don’t come inexpensively — especially in Seattle.
Help us raise $48,000 so we can cross rent and expenses off the list.
We’ve been fortunate to work out a very reasonable rental rate for our building, and we do everything we can to keep operating expenses as low as possible. Still these costs eat up a huge part of our budget and take away from therapists’ salaries, art supplies, and other essentials we need to do our work. We’d like to start 2018 knowing those necessities are paid for, so we can focus on our core services.
Can we count on you to help right now?
There’s always a temptation to think, “This sounds like a good cause. I’ll be sure to get back to this next week when I’m paying bills.” But there’s a reason the big button says “Donate Now,” not “Donate Eventually.”
