Sylvia May Fights Liver Cancer

Donation protected
On February 3rd, 2014, 12:23pm, weighing in at 7 lbs 7 oz, first time parents Brian and Nora welcomed baby Sylvia May into the world. The news brought excitement to friends and family throughout the country. Sylvia's birth was a blessing and Brian and Nora were eager to give their new bundle of joy as much love as they could as they watched her grow and discover the world around her. As the months passed by, Sylvia was growing and getting bigger by the second. A week or so before her 6 month mark, Brian and Nora discovered a small bulge on the side of her stomach. Worried at what it might be, they set up an appointment with Sylvia's doctor, which led to her being rushed to the emergency room to get an ultrasound, then a cat scan, then an MRI. It seemed as though that small bulge had turned out to be a large tumor that was taking over her liver, hogging up her blood supply, and causing her to be anemic. Before they knew it, Brian, Nora, and baby Sylvia were embarking on a 360 mile journey from Fairbanks, Alaska to The Children's Hospital at Providence in Anchorage, Alaska. The tumor taking over Sylvia's liver turned out to be Pediatric Hepatoblastoma, or Liver Cancer, which affects children under 3 years old. Sylvia was placed under anesthesia and a biopsy was done of the tumor on her liver, which concluded that she would have to undergo months of Chemotherapy to shrink the size of the tumor. After the Chemo, Sylvia will have to undergo yet another surgery to completely remove the tumor altogether. A baby so small should never have to go through such aggressive treatment, but with strength and love and prayers, we know Sylvia will fight through this terrible disease. Luckily, most of Sylvia’s medical expenses are covered under her insurance. What we ask of you is for small donations to cover expenses that insurance does not cover. Brian and Nora will be unable to work to support themselves and Sylvia during their stay in Anchorage during Sylvia’s Chemotherapy. They will need help with things including living expenses, housing, food, travel, and medical expenses that the insurance does not cover. No donation is too small. With your help, love, prayers, and support, Brian and Nora will be able to cure their baby girl of this horrible disease and watch her grow up the way she was intended to grow up. Thank you for your time.
