Education is Power. Connecting to Learn.

At 'Switch on the Future' we are working to facilitate the education and skills of the up and coming generation of members of the socially and economically disadvantaged communities in the UK, Africa and Latin America.

All the more urgent in a COVID-19 world, with digital education delivery in many settings the only option, Switch on the Future focuses upon providing support for children to have the available connectivity and infrastructure needed to develop and participate more fully in society.

We do this through infrastructure, and connectivity programs in educational settings. In doing this we ensure that children can attend school on campus, or remotely, by providing accessible, connected facilities.

We take a holistic approach to delivering this end outcome for children. Our goal is to bring lasting change to children's lives; achieved by serving their basic human right to education in all settings, and the value of local and global peer connected educational interaction, problem solving and the ability to participate in society.

Switch on Mathare is our foundation initiative between Nai Nami in Kenya, and Switch on the Future in the UK.

Nai Nami is an initiative set up proactively by residents of Mathare, Kenya’s second largest slum community. By virtue of both its size, and it being the second largest slum, not first, it has not historically been the priority for the usual international aid organisations in terms of development support. Recognizing the varied and difficult path that can be chosen by, or available to children, Nai Nami saw a need to embed education within Mathare in a structured way.

In 2017 Nai Nami, working with Head Teacher Madam Mary, set up the Roots Institute School which currently provides education in all 7 core school subjects, to 276 children in 8 small non-purpose built classrooms in different locations across Mathare, with zero connectivity to deliver education. Their vision since then has been to re-home the school into a structured, connected, facility. Switch on the Future is now working in collaboration with Nai Nami to achieve this vision and to connect the Roots Institute with similar schools in the UK such that they may take part in global STEM curriculum programmes.

Funding for this foundation initiative is well under way, and Switch on the Future’s ambition is to go live with Switch on Mathare in May 2021.
