THE SWEET-WILLIS STORY: Jerry Willis has been confronted with a very serious medical issue. His wife took him to emergency room on Valentine's Day morning (their first as a married couple), to discover he was experiencing renal failure and she saved his life; timing was crucial they said. This was very sudden and completely unexpected, just had blood tests in January, nothing was wrong with them. However, his feet had started swelling and him & his wife were working with their doctor to find out why. Anyhow, Jerry was admitted to hospital immediately, then immediately put on daily dialysis and many other meds. (high dose steroids for one) until they could figure out the exact cause, and then work to treat it specifically.
He was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis on Feb. 20th. The treatment for his disease (auto-immune) and the damage already caused to his kidneys will be dialysis 3 times a week and chemotherapy every other week for 3 months. After his first chemotherapy, he unfortunately ended up getting AFIB, so Jerry now has his kidneys and heart that are weak & suffering. There are so many other doctor appointments, labs and a new hospital procedure that just came up, etc. Once the "trial" he is following is complete, then they access his results and we will see how well the treatment worked. Throughout the 3 months, they will be accessing his blood & urine, to provide the nutrients (meals) specifically to him. Also to see how the dialysis is doing in helping his kidneys come back to functioning on their own. The couple’s goal: kidneys working at 100% and AFIB reverses itself! The couple is very optimistic! They are VERY focused!
However, during this time, the bills and expenses for living with this disease, the treatment, insurance premiums, co-payments for every visit to get blood drawn, see doctors, treatments, all prescriptions, special drinks & meals, etc. are piling high. Jerry is out of work during his treatment, at least. In addition, his wife Holly is his caretaker (with no other family nearby), so she is handling and managing EVERYTHING and therefore is unable to work much at all during this time. Holly's priority is number on Jerry and taking it day-by-day, so that they can celebrate their 1st wedding anniversary June 30th. The couple had to cancel their honeymoon, to use the money to put towards all their usual monthly/quarterly bills.
We are all confident Jerry will make a full recovery, but it will take time and the added stress of their financials is not something they need to worry about right now. Any donation amount would be greatly appreciated, as they work through the issues already coming up. We will update with more information as it develops. Thank you in advance for your help.
