Susan's Medical Expense Fundraiser

Friends of Susan Ulberg have decided to set up this Go Fund Me page to help ease some of the burden her family is going through at this time.  Most of us have known Susan for years and consider her a wonderful friend.  We have seen her crazy wit, her spunky personality, the “don’t take any crap” attitude, her adventure for life, and most importantly her joy and absolute love of family.

Last summer Susan got some devastating news.  Susan was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She has already gone through several rounds of chemotherapy only to find out the cancer in her spleen has doubled in size. While the past treatments were successful for some of the compromised lymph nodes, the large spot in her spleen has been chemo resistant. Every other Monday she has Chemotherapy treatments at the Cancer Center at U of M-Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, Michigan. The cost is over $17,000 per treatment. Every other Thursday she has Lumbar Puncture treatments at U of M-Metro Health at a cost of $28,000 per treatment. Additional weekly treatments for Radiation Therapy and future Stem Cell Transplant will add to the already mounting medical expenses.

The money raised in this campaign will be used for all the above expenses as well as the actual charges for the chemotherapy drugs to help her fight this terrible disease.  We are hoping to raise enough money to help with living costs as well. Susan will be going into the hospital for three to four weeks or possibly more for the planned Stem Cell Transplant; an isolation period of months after the stem cell transplant. This process completely wipes out her entire immune system and she will be a risk for infections that would put her back into the hospital. Her natural immunity will be compromised until her body heals and starts to develop cells to build up the body’s natural ability to fight infections. 

 Susan is a wife, a sister, a mother, grandmother, a daughter, an aunt, and a dear friend.  For this reason we want to help fight along with Susan and take some of the burden off her and her family.  Susan’s favorite thing to do is spend time with her family. She absolutely adores them.  She has been married to Mike for almost 41 years. In fact, she was already so ill that her and Mike didn’t get to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary last year. She was hospitalized for over two weeks once the doctor’s diagnosed her with the Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  She has two awesome kids; a daughter named Aaron and a son named Nick.  Aaron is married to Keith and together they have two children:  Reed and Wyatt.  Nick is married to Brittney and they have three kids; Wesley, Rileigh and Aidan.   Mike and Susan have a cottage that they spend a great deal of time at.   Most of their weekends are spent with the kids and/or grandkids.  They love fishing year-round, spending time on their pontoon boat or relaxing together on their deck.
