Supporting low-income students back to school

Donation protected

Covid-19 has been disproportionately affecting low-income neighborhoods. People in low-income areas tend to live closer to each other and have over populated schools. This results in more instances of close contact that can increase the chances of catching the virus. With healthcare being so expensive in America, many families either have minimal health insurance or none at all, which will result in further debt due to the cost of treatment. With schools open this semester, many families have been suffering financially and/or putting themselves at risk in order for their children to get access to education.

Our plan as Friends of DFW Schools Foundation is to reduce the stress of these times by providing face masks for students. Every school has been mandating masks in order to keep the community safe, but it is very expensive to buy disposable ones and reusable ones are not as effective. Without good masks, parents may not feel comfortable sending their children to school because of the potential debt or death to older members in the family. This could be a financial problems to some and could be the reason for their children to have to resort to online learning. Although teachers and their school districts have been working hard this past summer to make online learning fun, effective, and engaging, it could still be a negative experience for families. With students being at home during normal school hours, parents may have to take time off work to stay home and watch their kids, resulting in a decrease in their paychecks. However, they can’t risk their family/themselves getting sick and have no other choice. We aim to help these families have a better security in their child/family’s safety while being back in school.

With every donation, there is a comment section where you can state which school district you would like to help. We are currently focusing on Frisco ISD, Mckinney ISD, Allen ISD, Plano ISD and Richardson ISD, because of their frequent mask shortages and high population in low-income areas. If there is no specific district for a donation, we will be adding it to a random school district with lower funds. We will be working with each school district and buying high quality disposable masks for them to distribute amongst children in low-income or struggling families.

We recognize the impact this pandemic has on low-income families and we want to aid them during these troubling times. We have seen communities come together to help those who are less fortunate and we want to inspire others to do the same. We encourage you to contribute to this project and share this with friends and family on social media.

We truly appreciate for your kindly protecting our children and let us believe Love never Die.
