Support Rebekah's Lyme Battle

Donation protected
My dear friend, Rebekah Mocerino, is suffering from the ravages of Chronic/Late Stage Lyme disease. The disease is caused by a spiral-shaped bacterium called Borrelia Burgdorferi which can infect multiple organs and produces a wide range of symptoms. Rebekah contracted Lyme from a tick bite when she was 6 years old but wasn’t diagnosed until 34 years later. She is grateful that the diagnosis can finally explain her debilitating fatigue, widespread pain, severe neurological issues, and coexisting infections that she just can't seem to shake. Because her Chronic Lyme Disease went untreated for so long, it has weakened her immune system, joints, brain(nervous system), and other organs.
She is unable to work, perform simple daily tasks like cleaning, cooking, driving, or reading a book. Even things like fluorescent lights, chemical smells, being on the computer, or certain noises can trigger migraines, vertigo, and tinnitus. She is home/couch bound most days and her husband has become her part time caregiver. Rebekah currently lives in Belgium where her husband, Robert, is serving in the US military.

There are opportunities in Europe to see specialists who can hopefully help her body eradicate the many infections which continually weaken her. A blessing of living in Europe is that the healthcare is exponentially cheaper than in the US. The treatments listed below would be in the +$100,000 range out-of-pocket. That is why Rebekah and her husband are actively seeking treatment in Europe before they return to the US for their next assignment.

The immediate priority for Rebekah is to address her Lyme-related jaw bone infections with doctors specialized in these complicated cases. On November 3, 2017, surgery will be performed on her infected jaw in Switzerland and overseen by world renowned Lyme Doctor, Dietrich Klinghardt PhD, MD. The jaw infections are preventing Rebekah’s immune system from becoming strong enough to fight the Lyme disease and other bacterial and viral co-infections.

Her next step is to have outpatient treatment at the Neomed Institute in Cyprus, Greece in January 2018. It is an intensive 7 week/6 days a week program. The treatments there will eradicate any lingering infection and assist in strengthening and rebuilding her immune system.

Estimate for the jaw surgery in Switzerland is $12,000.00 which includes pre-and post-care for 1 week.

Estimate for lodging/meals in Switzerland for 7 days is $1500.

Estimate for 7 weeks of medical treatment for Chronic Lyme Disease in Cyprus is $12,000.

Estimate for 7 weeks of lodging/meals in Cyprus is $3000.

Total estimated cost for Rebekah’s Lyme treatments: $28,500.

Despite her weakened condition, Rebekah has maintained a sweet spirit and always asks how she can pray for her friends.

I have set up this Gofundme campaign to help them with the many medical expenses which are not covered by their insurance.  Also knowing that you care and are praying for them will be a huge encouragement to them.

Thank you, dear friends, for helping in any way you can.  Rebekah did not ask that I set up this Gofundme campaign but is humbled by the offer of help.

All donations will go to out-of-pocket medical expenses listed above.

A note from Rebekah:

I am blessed beyond measure by Barbara’s empathy, kindness, and compassion for creating this campaign. Her heart for others is truly an inspiration. Honestly, I was struggling about the idea of a fundraiser. Asking for help is hard, uncomfortable, and exposing. However, I decided to put my insecurities aside and told Barbara I’m not going to stand in her (or God’s) way.

Lyme Disease is a devastating illness with its tentacles reaching every possible aspect of life; physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional. It is the most difficult experience I have endured. Yet, I am grateful for the lessons I have learned through it. To have a chance to participate in life again, is inexplicable. Above all, I want nothing more than God’s will to be done. So, if He chooses to heal me through these means, it is my dream to start a support charity for the chronically/invisibly ill.

Thank you, friends, for any donation you’re willing to make. Robert and I are so grateful and blessed by your generosity. Even if you can’t contribute financially we would love your prayers, because with God, nothing is impossible!

 With Much Gratitude,

Rebekah
