Michelle Alexander's Medical Fund

If you don't know Michelle, you will want to know her! She is a beautiful person inside and out.  Michelle is known as someone who takes care of others and will do anything for anyone.  Michelle is an adventurer - she loves trying new things, setting goals and going after them - for example, she wanted the Flying Pig medal, so she worked hard and got it this year (2017)!

On June 29, 2017, Michelle's life came close to ending, but her life was spared.  We are very thankful she is here, yet she is facing a long recovery and that is why we are setting up this GoFund me account.

Michelle had a sudden descending aortic aneurysm that ruptured. Not many people survive the type of surgery she had, only 20% of people who have this survive. We are so thankful she did, but the rupture also stopped the blood flow to her lower spine, her legs and to her kidneys. Most people don't know that when you lose blood flow to organs they begin to die. So from the time the aneurysm ruptured to the completion of surgery a few hours had passed. This resulted in her becoming paralyzed from the belly button down and damage to her kidneys. Due to no blood flow to her legs, her legs had to be amputated to prevent toxins of dead tissue from get into her blood system.

For a couple weeks Michelle was in a medically induced coma and unable to breathe without support from a ventilator. Michelle has had ups and downs while in the hospital, dealing with pneumonia and other complications along the way.  She had to have a tracheostomy performed, because she was still not breathing on her own. She is being weened off the tracheostomy and will hopefully be able to talk in a few weeks.

Michelle works for Select Specialty Hospital in Northern Kentucky and on the weekends she takes care of adults with special needs.  On her spare time, Michelle loves to spend time with her grandkids, and loves going to Kings Island.  Michelle is always involved in different adventures from walking clubs to doing 5Ks and 10Ks to trying Crossfit and taking cake decorating classes.  A great friend, mom, grandmother and co-worker - we are so blessed that she is still here with us today!!  Michelle will now need our help during her recovery, learning her new life in a wheel chair, getting healthy, and undergoing dialysis.  We are not sure when she will be able to return to work - so financially helping her with medical bills, possible prosthetics and other financial concerns would be a huge burden lifted.  Any donation would help Michelle during this time and you can be sure it will go to her needs and recovery.

Thank you to everyone for your support of Michelle during this time whether it be financial or prayers! She is a fighter and she will continue to have to fight and work through all the challenges she is facing.
