Charles R. Drew (CDU)/UCLA MD candidates are a close-knit group of medical students dedicated to providing superior healthcare to underserved communities from which many of us were raised. In life, and even as medical students, we value being community role models and providing support during life’s heaviest moments. It’s with heavy hearts that we must now extend that same support to our classmate and friend, Rasheed Ivey.
Originally from Compton, Rasheed came to CDU with the goal to dedicate his life to giving back to the community that has given so much to him. Rasheed has been my classmate and close friend for over 4 years and I've witnessed firsthand the lasting impact he's had at CDU and its surrounding community. Whether he’s teaching underclassmen or working with medical school reapplicants, Rasheed’s strength of character and determination is magnetic and unmatched.
On January 28th, Rasheed unexpectedly lost his mother. Those who know Rasheed understand that Mrs. Ivey was the most inspirational person in his life. Our hearts are filled with sadness for Rasheed and his family for their loss. And while monetary donations will not lessen the emotional agony, we hope that it will aid his family as they weather the impact of losing a beloved matriarch.
Note: All donations will be placed and withdrawn from a bank account belonging to Mr. Vincent Ofori; and subsequently transferred to an account belonging to Mr. Rasheed Ivey, on behalf of the Ivey family, via direct deposit.
