Support for beloved friend and musician Jay Popky

As many of you already know, and for those of you who don’t, due in large part to Jay’s private nature and unwillingness to burden others with his troubles, Jay has been ill battling cancer for some time now. Jay has always been a private person, always more interested in others than talking about his own difficult challenges.  And while he doesn’t often share his condition publicly, it would be fair to say that he is facing tough times, both physically and spiritually.  Jay’s nature has always been one of quiet strength; he is not one to complain.  Still, throughout his illness Jay has remained the same compassionate, kind, generous husband, father, son, brother and friend to so many while continuing to exude his stoic professionalism throughout his ordeal.

The time has come for all of us who know Jay either personally, professionally, or even casually to show our support and love for the man and his music for the enrichment he has brought to all of our lives for so many years.  The one true thread that binds all of these relationships is that of Jay’s ability to make us better people and better musicians, which is why he is respected, loved, and supported by so many people.  Jay’s musical legacy and roots run deep as a long-standing member of the greater Philadelphia music community for whom he has invested so much of his heart and soul for so many years.  Though Jay’s illness may have interrupted his musical journey, it has not extinguished the fire he continues to find for his music. But lately it has been more of a challenge for Jay to perform.

Jay’s network of musicians and friends have bridged both space and time through his many relationships and bands including, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, The Philadelphia Folksong Society, and The Tuesday Group and as a member of the following bands; The Raucous Brothers, Beaufort, SONOMA SOUND and The Cornerstones. Jay has been involved in many musical endeavors always while encouraging and influencing a new generation of musicians. Jay has continued to grow, create, and thrive as a musician, composer, songwriter and singer; he has brought steady joy, and positive encouragement to so many people through his God-given talents in music.  Now it’s time for us to give back to Jay.

A group of Jay’s friends are organizing a special night of music with a Go Fund Me fundraising event to celebrate Jay’s music and friendships, and to support Jay and his family to help offset their burdens of navigating the difficult circumstances of mounting medical bills.  This party is to make it easy for Jay to enjoy quality time with his lifelong musical collaborators, friends, and his cherished family.  There will be plenty of live music by Jay’s friends and if Jay is up to it, he may also play. We encourage all to donate generously to the Go Fund Me in any way you can for this wonderful man. Lastly, please share the details of the event with any and all of Jay’s friends. Thank you.

The event will be held on Sunday March 29th, from 2-5PM at the Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford PA. 19086
