<div>On Friday, 14 August 2026, our family’s world changed.
</div>

<div>Our beautiful 5-year-old nephew, Mikey, was diagnosed with a 5.3 cm tumour at the base of his skull.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mikey is the second eldest of four children. He has an 8-year-old brother, Sonny, a 2-year-old sister, Annie, and his baby brother Bobbie, who was just four weeks old when their family’s world was turned upside down.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Two major surgeries in two days
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The tumour had been putting pressure on Mikey’s brain stem and blocking the drainage of fluid from his head, causing pressure to build inside his head.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On the Friday evening, Mikey underwent his first surgery to relieve the pressure and insert a drain.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The following day, he underwent a second surgery to remove the tumour.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The surgery lasted an incredible 9½ hours.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The surgeons were able to remove approximately 90% of the tumour. Unfortunately, the remaining tumour was considered too risky to remove because of its close proximity to Mikey’s brain stem and surrounding blood vessels.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mikey spent two days of being sedated, before being woken on the Sunday afternoon.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thankfully, he was very responsive and showed no obvious negative signs from the surgery. Since then, his recovery has been going well, and he has managed to get out of bed a few times.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are incredibly grateful for every positive step.
</div>

</div>
<div>Mikey’s journey ahead
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have now received the results of the tumour, and Mikey has been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a type of childhood brain cancer.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mikey now faces a long and challenging road ahead, with an intensive treatment schedule and significant time away from home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>His medical team has recommended that his next treatment take place overseas, we are so blessed that the government is paying for this crucial treatment for Mikey including flights and accommodation for Mikey and his mum. The family is currently preparing for Mikey, his mum Amy and baby brother Bobbie to travel.
</div>

</div>
<div>This will mean a significant period away from home for the family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Meanwhile, Jesse is hopeful to be able to keep the family together for at least part of that next phase of treatment however for the majority of it he will stay home and take care of Mikey’s other young siblings, Sonny and Annie.
