Support for Lauren's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Lauren was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. She had been sick for a few weeks with what was first diagnosed as a cold and later diagnosed as pneumonia. After two weeks of fever, she returned to the doctor who originally diagnosed her pneumonia and he found her white blood cell count to be 148,000 (what should normally be around 10,000). She was sent to UNC's North Carolina Cancer Hospital immediately (Monday, January 14).

Lauren remained in the hospital for months while being treated for the cancer and also tested to see what strain of AML she had. Unfortunately, we found out Lauren's Leukemia type is very aggressive. The cancer has come and gone a few times, but we now know that her only course of treatment is to receive a stem cell transplant. In early June, Lauren was flown to MD Anderson in Houston to receive clinical trial chemo as a result of her Leukemia building up a resistance to the chemo drugs available at UNC.

She and our mom have been at MD Anderson since then, and will remain there receiving the clinical trials at what is said to be the best cancer hospital in the country.

We've been so overwhelmed with prayers and acts of kindness during this difficult time. Many people have asked how they can help... how they can make a direct contribution. Well, here we are! This site was created to give friends, family and supporters a place to make a donation to support Lauren's Leukemia battle. We don't know how long they'll be in Houston, or how long her treatment will last. If doctors at MD Anderson can get Lauren into remission, our hope is for her to return to UNC's Cancer Center for her stem cell transplant. This will require a stay of approximately 100 additional days.  What we do know is that we don't want her to spend time worrying about how she is going to pay for her medical bills and expenses in Texas. We want her mind to be focused on getting well. Since her arrival in Texas, her hospital bill alone is over $135,000... and she hasn't even been there for two full weeks.

We'll continue to keep this website updated. We've been overwhelmed with the love and support from friends and family. Please continue to pray for Lauren as she fights this disease. We're hopeful for better news and continued progress each day.

Thank you for stopping by and showing your support! It means the world to us.
