Six weeks ago Matt Holder sent us a
text that broke our hearts. He had
just been diagnosed with stage four squamous cell carcinoma. He would have to
go through radiation and chemo and would be getting a peg tube for calories. As hairdressers this is terrifying
because we are self-employed. We
don't get sick days, or paid vacation, we don't have insurance plans or qualify
for unemployment.
Over the last six weeks Matt has begun treatment, he has worked as much as possible and has done an amazing job when he's been there. He has displayed so much strength and courage and is completely inspirational to everyone around him. But to say that he's taken a major hit would be the understatement of a lifetime. This week he approached me to tell me it would be his last week of work for a little while and he needed to take this time to really focus on his recovery and stay well.
The goal of this fundraiser is to give matt an opportunity to kick cancers ass while not having to worry about his living expenses or his medical bills until he can get back up and cut the heck out of some hair.
