Ukuleles in Schools

Donation protected

The Stillwater Ukulele Association is NOW raising money for PHASE 2 to purchase ukuleles to place in 10 smaller  elementary schools around the Stillwater, Oklahoma, area.

~~~~~~~~~
PHASE 1 of the Ukuleles in Schools program was started in November, 2014, and was completed in December, 2014.   PHASE 1 was as follows:
The Stillwater Ukulele Association is raising money to purchase ukuleles to place in two elementary schools in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  This project will match the donation of ukuleles to two other elementary schools in Stillwater by Daddy O's Music Co.  in honor of their 26th Anniversary.  Daddy O's donated guitars to the remaining two elementary schools last year.
With your donation, we will purchase ukuleles, cases and music for two schools.  Stillwater will then have a stringed instrument program in all six elementary schools (guitars in two, ukuleles in four).
~~~~~~~

UPDATE:  Phase 1 funding has been raised and the ukuleles have been delivered now to Will Rogers, Richmond, Westwood and Skyline elementary schools in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Ukuleles have also been delivered to Perkins-Tryon Intermediate School and Mulhall.  Cushing is next on the list.

Phase 2 will place ukuleles in 10 smaller, Payne County area schools.

The ukulele is a very accessible instrument and is quickly learned by elementary-aged kids.  Music teachers and volunteers from the Stillwater Ukulele Association will help lead and guide the students in making music.  With only two chords to start, the students will be able to play almost 20 songs.

Music benefits students in many ways.   It helps develop language, reasoning, memory, coordination, pattern recognition, creativity, imagination, discipline, teamwork, self confidence and better coordination between the right and left brain

Arts education funding is decreasing in many school districts.  With your help, this project will get musical instruments into elementary schools in Stillwater.  Learning an instrument at this age leads to a lifetime of making music.

Local businessman Jay Albright and an OSU Coach have issued donation challenges in the amounts of $20 and $100, respectively.   Dr. Lesa Staubus challenges all DVMs and Westwood Moms to match her donation.  A donation in the amount of $200 will give you "naming rights" on a ukulele.  You may autograph it or place your business logo or sticker on the back.

Please give now to help make the world a better place, one ukulele at a time.
