Stillwater Makes A Change

At Stillwater High School, we focus on caring deeply for our fellow students and our community. As a student body, we love to volunteer and want to give back to the charities and organizations in our community that make Stillwater a great place. SMAC, Stillwater Makes a Change, is our annual student-led philanthropic campaign to raise money and awareness for a local non-profit organization.
SMAC was created so non-profit organizations can continue to focus on serving those they care so much about while we focus on raising money and awareness to meet their needs. As students, we invest in SMAC because it focuses on other people, not ourselves. We are delighted to say that this will be our tenth year of making a positive change in Stillwater.
Last year, when it came time to choose our next beneficiary, we were deeply touched by Mya’s Promise. Mya's Promise serves children living with wide variety of special needs and their families. They provide educational programs, scholarships, and activities promoting social and personal growth for the children, while also offering assistance for parents and siblings.
The funding vision that Mya’s Promise presented to us was to build a new, adaptive play structure at Strickland Park. This is an incredibly exciting project that fits SMAC so well. SMAC may start at the High School, but it extends outward so that children of all grade levels are involved. There are no adaptive play structures in this region of the state, and we want Stillwater to be one of them. This new meeting place will serve not only children with physical and mental challenges, but also every able bodied child. It also allows adults of every age and physical condition to interact with their children to the fullest measure. Located in the heart of Stillwater, this structure promises to engage visitors and enhance the image of our wonderful community.
