Amputee - Help my Dad get Prosthetics

Beschermde donatie
Hi, I am reaching out because this past year my independent hard working father, Steve Gegner, lost his fingers and legs and feet. Losing his limbs has been a life changing experience for him and the whole family. Considering he's one of the most independent men I've ever known in my life, it definitely is not easy seeing him like this. January 1, 2013 my Dad went into the hospital to find out he had a heart attack. The hospital had to do a quadruple bypass and mitral valve replacement immediately. Over time, Due to reaction with the medication (heparin and anesthesia) and/or diabetes, he ended up with gangrene on his hands and feet then having to amputate his fingers, legs and feet. Who would have known that when he went to the hospital because he had a heart attack that he would end up in the hospital for 4 months and would lose his limbs? He ended up in the hospital from January 2013 until April 2013 when he was finally released. He is a survivor and fought for his life throughout this dramatizing life changing experience but still needs help. While in the hospital the rhythm in his heart slowed down to the point where the hospital had to vtecked him because he blue lined but they were able to bring him back to life. That happened a couple days after his surgery but he fought through it to stay tuff and stay alive. Besides him getting his limbs amputated, throughout my Dad's stay at multiple hospitals for 4 months, he also developed psychosis, he also had lung failure, blood clots throughout his body (which was super dangerous) and his lower back had bed sores from lying in hospital for 4 months. My Dad is a fighter and survived all that he had gone through but is still struggling today. He has insurance at the moment but it doesn't cover the things he needs and his visits for everything are maxed out. He needs more professional care and certain things that I will list below so he can live a better quality of life then he's living now. My Mom is taking care of him daily 24 hours a day(no training or health education), my sister and her fiancé had to drop out of college and move from PA to FL to help my Mom take care of my Dad 24 hours a day. They have been in Florida for a year but they needed help my Dad for him to survive. My Mom can not take care of him on her own, Its a 24 hour day and night task and isn't easy. This dramatic experience affected my Dads life completely and all of our family members life that are trying to help. What I'm asking for is if someone can help my Dad with things he needs so he can get his independence, health and happiness back, also so my family can also carrying on with their goals and dreams with college, careers, ect. It would mean the world to us if my Dad could get prosthetics and have his fingers, legs and feet back. He also needs to get rehabilitation to build his upper strength physically so this could happen! If you can help by donating to him, that would mean everything to him and to our whole family. They live in Cape Coral Florida and it hasn't been easy to find anything or anyone to help after his incident so that's why I'm now reaching out to you. Donating will help to get him more professional attention and the things he needs to become independent again!

What Steve Gegner, My Dad, Needs to be independent again:

"¢ Prosthetics for feet and hands and upper body strength so he can stand on feet (Cost: Ranges from 5,000 to 50,000 a leg, 3,000 to 30,000 an arm)
"¢ Needs transportation back and forth to see specialists (Cost: Paying 90$ each ride from home to specialist every time)
"¢ Blue Cross Blue Shield only allowed 7 visits for this year (for therapy and nurses visit) so he needs more visits for therapy and nurses visits
"¢ Instead of paying 90$ each time for transportation for each specialty visit, another option is buying a van to roll his powered chair into, one with a lift. This way he can have a van for himself and not having to worry about transportation for the rest of his life
"¢ Needs therapy/rehab
"¢ Needs a "Rehab Rolling Shower Commode Wheelchair"(Cost between 1000 to 2500) This device tilts back and has hole and wheels so he can be rolled from toilet into the shower(all in one chair). His legs also need support while on device so a device that also supports his legs so they are not hanging. The hole in device helps him to go to bathroom and to clean his bottom. It also needs to recline for when showering to wash hair and other body parts
"¢ It would also be nice to have a nurse/someone come in to help and watch my Dad when needed while giving my Mom some time by herself (even just a couple hours a week would help). She's helping him to the best of her ability 24 hours a day/night and cannot leave the house

So all in all these are things insurance would not cover and what my Dad needs to get better: Prosthetics, transportation, a van with lift, a rehab rolling shower commode wheelchair, therapy/rehab, doctors visits, nurses to come to home a couple hours a week.

Anything you can donate to help us work toward my Dad and our family goals of him being able to life an independent life again, will help tremendously and be appreciated more then you could ever know! Thank you for your time, efforts, energy and a big THANK YOU to anyone who donates towards a life changing cause!
