2nd Annual Stephen C. Power Fund

Stephen C. Power Scholarship Foundation
Dear Friends and Family,
On March 15th, 2014 I will be hosting the second annual Stephen C. Power fund in my brother's memory. As many of you know, February 27th will mark the sixth anniversary of Stephen's Passing. In honor of him, I started this scholarship program a year ago to give one lucky high school student a scholarship towards college.
Last year we raised $7,000 and awarded the scholarship to Alexandra Bayliss, a senior from Quincy High School who started as a freshman at Stonehill College in Stoneham, Ma. Alex was the epitome of facing the pressures of peer pressure and striving to be more than what society expects of the average youth. Unfortunately, with such a high drug epidemic currently going on, it is seldom most youth go to college.
I am working with the guidance counselors from each High School to make this donation happen. I have come up with an essay question about overcoming obstacles and adversity in life. Any senior student can submit an essay and I get to pick the winner! How exciting! Once the winner is picked, the money will be directly sent to the college. If the student needs books, the check will be written directly from the college to the book store. My goal last year was $2,500 and we raised over $6,500. This year I would like to try and go for $7,000. With the cost of college these days I am hoping to go above and beyond this amount!
There are many ways to support my cause! One way is to come to the event. It will be held at Florian Hall @ 7pm March 15th, 2014. The tickets are $20 and will include appetizers and a DJ! The next is to donate online if you are not able to make it. Any donation, if you are not able to come, would be much appreciated! Lastly, if you cannot do either and would feel more comfortable sending a check you may do so. You can make the check out to the Stephen C. Power Scholarship Fund and mail it to 8 Lawson Lane, Braintree Ma, 02184. This donation is tax deductible. The tax ID # is 46-1601426.
Thank you for supporting me in my cause to create drug awareness and get one less high school student off the streets and into college. It is extremely important to me to create awareness that experimenting with drugs or using drugs to numb any pain can ultimately lead to death. My deadline to donate for this event is the day of the event, so that the funds can be finalized and handed over to the college by the start of the next fall semester.
