Hey Legends I need some help:
I have decided to attempt a Rottnest Solo Crossing, and whilst I need all the help I can get to make it, that is not what this is about. I want the swim to mean something;
Last year I volunteered with Nakuru Hope at the Gabriel Learning Centre & Orphanage. It was an eye-opening experience, spending time with kids, who despite having nothing & coming from horrendous backgrounds, were also the happiest bunch of little battlers I've ever met. The school provides much-needed education and food to approx 300-day students, plus a home/refuge for another 50 orphans. It also provides employment for kids carers or parent & people of the slums, through sewing (the kid's uniforms), farm management (they have a farm where they grow all the food eaten by the kids and staff) & school security. On top of this, they also provide clean drinking water to the people of the slums, otherwise, they have to collect water from the drains.
I can't applaud the school & orphanages management enough- it is Australian owned, operated and administered and very hands on. It is has been created with a truly sustainable system and are positively changing the lives of the kids & people of the slums every day. I have seen it!
But, as the kids continue to get older, and the school needs to cater for further education, it needs to expand its infrastructure. I am fundraising for 2018 Educational supplies (so all children are able to have their own books and not share) and more bunks, blankets and medical supplies for our intake of orphans and those seeking refuge.
Check out their website http://www.nakuruhope.org
I am asking you to please help me get there by making a donation to Nakuru Hope! Any donation, no matter how big or small would be very much appreciated!!
Knowing that if I make the 20kms, the kids will get their money will be enough to get me across the line.
